Every piece is printed to order on heavyweight cotton. Prints fail for three reasons, and all three are avoidable.
Wash cold, always
Hot water opens the fibres and lifts ink. Cold water on a gentle cycle keeps the print sitting flat against the cotton.
Turn it inside out
Most print damage is abrasion from other clothes in the drum, not the detergent. Inside out, the print rubs against the shirt's own back instead of a zip.
Skip the dryer
Tumble heat is the fastest way to crack a print and shrink a boxy fit into a tight one. Hang dry in shade — direct sun fades pinks first.
If it creases
- —Iron on the reverse side, medium heat, never directly on the print.
- —Steam from a distance if you have a steamer — it is safer than contact heat.
- —Never bleach, and skip fabric softener; it coats the ink and dulls it.
